The Evidence
Head Steward Decision
I see a lot that's quite wrong with these clips. First I'd like to mention that there are no pedal inputs, so I was this '' close to marking it as insufficient evidence. Luckily I can hear the brake application from car 9 though.
All cars behave fairly unsportsmanlike, there's bumping and rubbing where there doesn't need to be - especially with how ACC's net code works. Car 9 and Car 84 come down to Rivazza and bump, which makes it look like it car 9 needs to cut the corner slightly to make it through. It is the stewards' opinion that they have lost the position as they will be on the outside of the corner of T17. Yet they continue on and skip the turn, and fail to brake for the cars ahead and plow into the the back of car 84, spinning them out. This would be considered a 20s penalty for causing an incident in the braking zone for car 9.
They then fail to apply brakes immediately and continue on the gas for nearly a second before attempting to rejoin the track - albeit unsafely. So for that a Driving Standards Warning (DSW) will be applied to car 9 as well.
Finally, it looks like car 84 lets off the brakes and moves backwards across the track - across the racing line. This is considered an unsafe rejoin, so a DSW will also be applied to car 84 for "unsafe rejoin."
All drivers are welcome to try and appeal. Please provide further evidence and/or reasoning for the appeal in the #race-director channel.
